Invisalign Facts

Traditional braces have undergone an incredible transformation with changes to their design, size, shape, and even color! And today’s braces are smaller and more aesthetically appealing. They can also correct a wide range of orthodontic issues. This gives patients an effective method for achieving the kind of smile they long for.But many patients are still questioning using them. Fortunately, for you and them, there is an alternative!

Invisalign clear orthodontic aligners are that other option.

Dr. Lathe Miller is rated a 1% provider, by Invisalign, for adult and teen Orthodontic care in Grand Rapids for treating with Invisalign aligners.

Invisalign is an innovative system that offers patients the same incredible results as braces. And those results can be achieved without the use of hardware that gets affixed to teeth. Because Invisalign is relatively new in the world of orthodontics, there are many misconceptions about what aligner therapy can do, how effective they are, and how much they cost.

Invisalign Orthodontic Therapy – What is It?

The Invisalign system created a software and aligner technology that allows orthodontists, like Dr. Miller, to move in small increments (stages), with the use of custom clear aligners, crooked and/or misaligned teeth. Align Technology, back in 1998, developed the cutting edge Invisalign clear aligner system. Patients undergoing this orthodontic therapy get a set of aligners to wear over their teeth. Each set has a certain number of aligners that are to be worn for a specific time frame – some for a week, others for two weeks each. Upon completing each stage, patients replace their current one with the next in the series of aligners.

Initially, Invisalign was mostly used for mild crowding or simple spacing issues. Over seven million patients around the world have had their teeth and smiles straightened using the Invisalign system. Today, with the right diagnosis from a highly experienced Orthodontist, Invisalign is just as successful as traditional braces. And it offers a great deal more freedom and flexibility.

Do Invisalign Aligners Work for All Ages?

Invisalign aligners tend to work best for adults and teens with mild to moderate orthodontic issues; however, Dr. Miller has the experience and the successes to take on cases using Invisalign that many other orthodontists and dentist will not consider. If you have been told previously that your particular case does not qualify for Invisalign, Dr. Miller would like to invite you to schedule your FREE consultation to determine if Invisalign aligner treatment is a good option for you.

At Miller Orthodontics, you will be recommended treatments best for your smile and your lifestyle!

Invisalign vs. Traditional Braces – Which Treatment Option is Quicker?

Orthodontic treatments require a certain level of dedication from patients to be successful. Patient compliance is the key to using Invisalign aligners. Braces, because they are fixed appliances (meaning they are attached to teeth surfaces), little effort is required from a patient. The Invisalign aligners are removable appliances, so in order for them to work effectively, they remain in a patient’s mouth between twenty and twenty-two hours a day throughout the course of treatment.

Because every orthodontic patient’s case is different, there isn’t a (one size fits all) solution as to the length of time needed for braces or aligners. Each patient responds differently and in their own time frame. The average number of aligners used with the Invisalign system is approximately between (10 to 48).The total treatment time averages between 6 to 18 months – slightly quicker than that for traditional braces!

How Does the Cost for Invisalign Compare to Braces?

When treatments using Invisalign first entered the scene, they were considered rather expensive upon hitting the orthodontic market. Over the years, however, that cost has decreased, but the popularity has increased. Comparatively speaking, the total cost of treatments using braces vs. aligners, Invisalign is now just about the same as traditional braces these days.

At Miller Orthodontics, our goal to provide affordable, high-quality orthodontic care for every budget. There are a variety of payment options available to you, and we accept many major insurance plans as well. Our team can assist you with any of your insurance and benefits forms!

Invisalign Advantages Compared to Braces

Invisalign aligners are removable! That is one of several of their appealing factors. And they are nearly invisible when worn! They offer patients a great deal of flexibility than that of traditional orthodontic methods. Food restrictions are always a concern with braces. Patients with braces must avoid foods that are chewy or hard to prevent potential damage to the hardware. So, unfortunately, many popular snacks and foods are eliminated.Because the Invisalign aligners are removable, this is never a problem! Just remove the aligners any time you want to eat. When finished, a patient just puts them back in. Orthodontic treatment, with no food restrictions! How awesome is that?!

Having removable aligners makes it simple to comply with proper oral hygiene. Invisalign aligners can be removed before flossing and brushing as you normally would! Patients wearing traditional braces, with all of the hardware and bands, will find brushing and flossing annoying and time-consuming.To clean the clear aligner, you can brush them with toothpaste or purchase kits with cleaning solutions. Caring for aligners is quite easy.

If you are an athlete or musician who plays a particular instrument that traditional braces would make challenging, Invisalign aligners solve that problem. And since the aligners can be removed for short durations of time, they are also perfect for special events where you want your natural teeth to be seen, such as a wedding, prom, or senior pictures.

When Invisalign Treatment in Complete -What is Next?

After any orthodontic treatment, your teeth will tend to gravitate to the previous positioning in your mouth. It doesn’t take long before your teeth want to drift back to their original position. The only thing that will prevent that is wearing a retainer to maintain their positioning. When your orthodontic treatment is complete, you will be provided with a custom retainer. Always wear the retainer precisely as directed by Dr. Miller to keep your new smile in check.
